Alongside our charity of the year, we also get involved with our local community. Community is very important to us and we know that it’s the little things that can make a big difference. That’s why Squab employees have the opportunity to put forward a case for £100 to support a local organisation that’s important to them. It could be a charity, a local group – the sky is the limit! A request form is completed and the case is then considered by the Management Team – the criteria pretty much goes – if it will help make a difference and is important to Squab staff, then we’re in! It’s a great way to not only give back to the community, but also do something that is close to the employees’ hearts.

Brunswick Healthy Living Centre

Kerry, our Corporate Responsibility Manager, put forward a case for Squab to provide sponsorship for Brunswick Healthy Living Centre’s (BHLC) golf fundraising event.

BHLC is a registered charity based in the old town of Leamington Spa offering a huge range of services promoting health and wellbeing. This includes dementia services, digital support, employment programmes, exercise classes and money management, to name but a few! Organisations such as BHLC are integral to our local community and heavily rely on fundraising support to in order to continue to serve the community in the way they do – something which Squab, of course, is glad to support.

The event was held on 17th May 2017 attracting 60 golfers. Well, it did attract 60 golfers, that is, until the rain poured (and we mean POURED) – now isn’t that typical! Despite the weather, 19 golfers braved the weather, albeit returning slightly soggy (that might be a small understatement). However, the lovely English weather in no way dampened the spirits of the event which was all about supporting BHLC, raising money and having fun!

The day certainly achieved its aims – the latest total was around £1,200 which is brilliant to hear.

Pauline Haynes, Chair of Trustees, said,

“Thank you so much for supporting our first attempt at a golf fundraising event – you can be assured that all of the money raised will be put to good use.”

Fingers crossed for drier weather next year!
