Highlights of 2017

As another year draws to a close, we’ve been reflecting on a busy and exciting 2017 and wanted to take this opportunity to share some of our highlights.

Before we do, we are saddened to share the news of the passing of Keith Evans, one of Squab’s founders, family members and co-directors. The foundations that he built continue to provide Squab with a wonderful platform from which it continues to develop and he will be greatly missed.

Domestic Mover of the Year

A big highlight was winning Domestic Mover of the Year 2017 in May. This was only the second year we’d entered having been shortlisted to finalists in 2016 so you can imagine our surprise when we heard our name being announced! To be recognised in this way is a huge achievement for the whole team and we’ve enjoyed every minute of it so far.

A brand-new business centre

Our state-of-the-art business centre officially opened. The new facility, designed around the family farm, provides a convenient and flexible work space for…anyone! We’ve loved seeing and hearing the positive reactions from those who have used it and welcome you to pop by and take a look if you haven’t yet seen it.

Creating our very own training house

We developed a brand-new training house which is nestled in our newest self store. When you walk through the front door it’s as though you’re walking into an ordinary home with kitchen, living room, stairs, bathroom, bedroom – even a study, all of which has been fully kitted out. The purpose of the house is to be used as part of removals training and we’ve no doubt it’ll be well used in the years to come.

Fundraising efforts for charity and supporting our local community

Earlier in the year, we announced our ‘Charity of the Year’ as The Myton Hospices, a charity within our community which has been providing patient care for 35 years. Since then, we’re thrilled to announce we’ve raised over £3,000 and look forward to continuing the fundraising into 2018. Alongside our charity of the year, we also completed ‘90 Goodwill Gestures’ – carrying out 90 gestures that made a difference, no matter how big or small, to those within our community. A real team effort from Squab and sister companies Box-it Central and Squab Hall Farm. We also got involved with Children in Need with a day of activities, raising £300.

New vehicles joined the fleet

This year we welcomed two new low-loader vans and a second 7.5T lorry to the Squab fleet. While it’s a growing fleet, it’s also becoming noticeably more orange with the latest lorry the third to be ‘Squabbed’ (or painted orange).

A new website!

We’ve been very busy behind the scenes, developing a brand-new website with a simplified feel and updated design. You can now reserve and/or book nearly all of our services online. We hope you’re enjoying using it!

Independent Business of the Year finalists

We entered the Leamington Business Awards for the first time and were thrilled to be shortlisted to the final four in the category of Independent Business of the Year, alongside three brilliant local businesses. While we didn’t win the title, it was a wonderful experience to be part of and who knows, maybe another year!

#SavedbySquab

As ever, our hashtag has been in use. Here’s a selection of images from the past year.
