So, you’re moving house (hooray!), but you’ve got a pool table to move (eek). While it’s great to own a pool table, it’s not so great trying to move one. Of course it depends on the size and model, but pool tables can weigh anywhere up to a whopping 450 kilos, so moving one is understandably going to take some serious planning!
While you may be able to move the pool table with others’ help, it’s highly advisable to hire professionals (that’s us!) Experienced professionals are exactly that – experienced! They also have the knowledge and correct equipment to ensure a smooth move. The last thing you need is an injury to you or your table. Costly, either way!
How to move a pool table: Before the move
When the surveyor visits your house before providing an initial quote, they will acknowledge the pool table. Depending on the size of the table, they will ask whether you would like the team to dismantle it for you.
If you’d like help with dismantling, there will be an additional cost. However, it’s important to weigh up the difference it’ll make having a team of experienced guys taking care of it (priceless!)
At Squab, we’ll dismantle to a certain point, but we won’t dismantle the table top – we never remove the felt or the slate. If, for any reason, you need to take this apart, we recommend you do so via the original supplier as they will be able to advise further to avoid damage and carry out the necessary maintenance.
If you’re not hiring professionals to dismantle, this will need doing by yourselves. It’s recommended that you label every part as you dismantle it so putting it back together is less of a headache. Again, it will depend on the size of the pool table. Some advice:
- Enlist the help of others.
- Make sure you’ve got the right tools.
- Plan where you’re storing the parts until you move.
- Plan where the pool table is going in your new house. This might sound obvious, but:
- Is the floor level?
- Are there stairs to consider?
- Are there tight corridors?
- What about corners to manoeuvre?
How to move a pool table: Moving Day
If you’ve hired the removal team to dismantle and pack, then they’ll take the load off for you. All parts will be wrapped and packed appropriately to avoid damage during the journey to your new home. Did you know it takes four of our removal guys to move a pool table top?
If you’ve dismantled the table yourself, you’ll need to advise the removals team of the different parts. If they’re packing on your behalf, they’ll wrap and pack up ready for the journey. Something to mention – we won’t reassemble if you have dismantled yourself.
A range of equipment is used during the moving process including standard tool kits, a Bitz box, blankets, removal ties (webbing) and dolly wheels.
Onward to your new house!
How to move a pool table: Settling in
On arrival at your new home, the removals team will get to work, offloading your pool table and delivering to the correct room. If you’ve asked for reassembly of the pool table, this will be done on your behalf (you could even fit in a game while the team unload the rest of your belongings!!) Something to consider: We can’t guarantee to get it levelled once we have set it up – please consult your instruction manual.
If you’re reassembling yourself, this is where your labelling will come in handy and it’ll (hopefully) be a piece of cake to put back together!
Enjoy your pool table in your new home!
